Here I will be posting some of the recipes that I have tried in my crock pot.
I like to give credit where credit is due, however I will not mention the name of the cook book but
I like to give credit where credit is due, however I will not mention the name of the cook book but
just let it be known that they are from a popular cook book and if
anyone would like to know which one it is I will gladly email it to you.
Meanwhile enjoy some of the recipes that I have tried.
Here is the first one that I tried.
Calico Ham and Bean Soup
1 pound dry bean mix, rinsed and drained, with stones removed
6 cups water
2 cups cooked ham
1 cup chopped onions
1 cup chopped carrots
1 tsp. dried basil
1 tsp. dried oregano
3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 bay leaves
6 cups water
1 tsp. liquid smoke, optional
1. Combine beans and 6 cups water in large saucepan. Bring to boil, reduce heat, and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes. Drain, discarding cooking water, and rinse beans.
2. Combine all ingredients in slow cooker.
3. Cover. Cook on Low 8 to 10 hours. Discard bay leaves before serving.
NOTE: I used a ham bone and cooked that over night in the crock pot covered with water. I then took
it out and took the meat off the bone and used that for the meat.
I didn't use the carrots and I omitted the salt. I also did the over night soak on the beans
instead of cooking them like the recipe said to do. This was good and I will be making it again.
Noodle Hamburger Dish
1 and 1/2 pounds ground beef, browned and drained
1 green pepper, diced
1 qt. whole tomatoes
10 and 3/4 ounce cream of mushroom soup
1 large onion, diced
1 and 1/2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
8 oz. pkg. noodles, uncooked
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
Combine all ingredients in slow cooker.
Cover and cook on High 3 to 4 hours.
This was good but it just wasn't one that I would make very often. It is sort of like
goulash. I think the next time I would leave out the cream of mushroom soup and put in some spaghetti sauce. Maybe that would make it more like goulash. I think we would have liked it better.

1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

10 3/4 oz. can cream of celery, or cream of chicken soup
4-oz. can sliced mushrooms, drained
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 tsp. grated orange rind
2 tsp. brown sugan
3 Tbsp. flour
1. Place sweet potatoes in slow cooker.
2. Rinse chicken breasts and pat dry. Combine flour, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, and garlic powder. Thoroughly coat chicken in flour mixture. Place on top of sweet potatoes.
3. Combine soup with remaining ingredients. STir well. Pour over chicken breasts.
4. Cover and cook on Low 8-10 hours, or on High 3-4 hours.
NOTE: This was so good. I did omit the orange rind because I didn't have it. I did add the
orange juice and maybe should have added a bit more since I didn't have the rind. We both like it and I will make it again.

Now I must tell you that I am not a Sauerkraut lover or I didn't think I was.
I remember having it at home growing up and never liked it. My hubby on the other hand loves it.
They used to make their own sauerkraut when he was growing up. I have never made any
dish using sauerkraut till now. I love this and we will have it again soon.
Polish Kraut 'n' Apples
1 lb. fresh or canned sauerkraut, divided
1 lb. lean smoked Polish sausage
( I used a Polish Kielbasa)
3 tart cooking apples, thinly sliced
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. caraway seeds, optional...I omitted
3/4 cup apple juice, or cider
1. Rinse sauerkraut and squeeze dry. Place half in slow cooker.
I just let mine drain a bit.
2. Cut sausage into 2-inch lengths and add to cooker.
3. Continue to layer remaining ingredients in slow cooker in order given. Top with remaining sauerkraut. Do not stir.
4. Cover. Cook on High 3-3 1/2 hours, or on Low 6-7 hours. Stir before serving.
