WHEW!!!!!

Two things...Whew! First of all I have not even gotten through one third of the blogs on the list of the Blogger Quilt Festival. It has been amazing to wander from blog to blog and see all the beautiful quilts. It is going to take a while to get through the list.

Also, I finally finished this quilt for my very dear friend. It was supposed to be done for her birthday in April but that didn't happen because I was there and not at home.This started out as a Friday Night Sew In project. I was so glad to get this quilt done, more than usual I think. I quilted the center of the quilt on my frame, I do squiggles not stipple. (No matter how hard I try to make the quilting look like I want it too, it never does and it looks more like a squiggle than a stipple.) I did some straight line quilting around the border. I used a bias cut for the binding that matches the gold in between the blocks and finished hand sewing that down last night while I was watching the last LOST episode.  I know for a fact that she is going to love it and the colors are just perfect for her house. I want to get this in the mail tomorrow because I can hardly wait for her to get it.

Bloggers Quilt Festival - My Entry

My regular visitors have seen this quilt but I wanted to enter it in the Festival because it is my favorite quilt.

Glacier Quilt

I saw an ad in a magazine for quilts designed by Lisa Moore of Sitka, Alaska, Quilts With A Twist . I looked at her site and saw this quilt. Now I am not one to order things quickly, I procrastinate and never end up ordering but this one was just too nice not to order it. Naturally, it was out of stock so I looked at some of her links and found a quilt shop in Anchorage, Alaska: The Quilted Raven and called them. Yes, they had a pattern of the Glacier Quilt. I called right away and ordered it. The lady then asked if I wanted the kit or just the pattern. I thought wow I might not be able to get the right fabrics here so I got the kit.

It was a little different technique than I had tried before but I really wanted to make it so I made a block from muslin first. All went well and then I had one question and called the quilt shop in Anchorage to ask them and they said to call Lisa. I did and talked with her for several minutes about the quilt, then we just chatted for a bit. She offered her help and even more fabric if I needed it. When the quilt was done I posted it here. I sent Lisa a link to the post. I had mentioned that I would have to wait about 6 months to get it quilted, it was way too special for me to do myself. Lisa emailed me back and offered to quilt it for me in a couple of months time. I got the quilt back and was so impressed with it. I don't think I would ever have a quilt again that would be quilted by the designer. This is one reason why this quilt is so special to me. Another reason is that my two girls live in Alaska and when my husband and I went there we both fell in love with Alaska and would love to go back one day. Besides we have 8 grandchildren up there.

I hope that you enjoy looking at this quilt as much as my husband and I enjoy looking at it. It hangs in our living room so we can see it every day.

Old Embroidery for Baby

As you all know my Mom works for an auctioneer. While I was there they had to pick up an estate for later sale at the auction, Mom and I went. It is usually a long day and we wanted to see how Mom would do before I left to come home. Among the many treasures that were there Mom found these so I brought them home with the Auctioneer's permission of course.

I imagine these were done for their children. It is a shame that the kids didn't take them but there was so much stuff in that house I am not sure where they put it all.

There is no backing on either of them. The white one looks as though it had been done on a table cloth and the blue one looks like a sheet was used. The boy is a bit spotted up and some of the embroidery is coming out as it looks to me like they used rayon floss instead of cotton. Not sure what I will do with them but I am going to try and clean them up a bit. I got some more ties too and I have been busy unsewing them. There are quite a few silk ties and some that are linen or wool but most of them are polyester and a few nylon ties. I have a couple of projects in mind for those, one is the Sunbonnet Sue.

Bloggers Quilt Festival

Welcome All Quilt Bloggers!

Amy at Park City Girl hosted a Quilt Festival in the Spring. Lots of prizes and lots and lots of beautiful quilts by bloggers to go and see. It took me quite some time last year to see them all. So many talented people here in blog land. Be sure and click on the link to go to her site and enter your quilt.

Here is my quilt for this Festival. I had designed this on my quilt on EQ5. I had a friend at the time that was having a baby and I wanted to make a quilt. She in turn had a very close friend that was having a baby about the same time. I was designing a quilt for my friend on the program and came up with two different quilts. I couldn't decide which quilt I wanted to make so I printed out both quilts and went to the quilt store. These fabrics had just come out. I realized that this fabric was perfect for the quilts. I ended up getting enough fabric for both quilts. I did paper piece the quilts and was really pleased with the way they turned out. I think all I did was stitch in the ditch because at the time I was not into Free Motion Quilting. I am sure that I made these in the spring of 2006.

First Annual Blogger's Quilt Festival

ONE OF MY FAVORITE QUILTS:
I decided to participate in the First Annual Blogger's Quilt Festival being held by http://parkcitygirl.blogspot.com/ There are so many quilts over there you would take a week to get through them all. So many talented people, I know I will never get through them all but I can at least look at a few. I think that parkcitygirl has really hit on something here.

I say one of my favorite quilts because...it is hard to pick just one. This one I love because of what it is. Not just a Sunbonnet Sue but the ties it was made out of.


Recently I had to take care of my mom in another state from where I live. The sweet lady, Norma, next door owns this quilt. I have know this woman all my life and I love her to pieces. I was visiting one night when my mom was in the hospital and she asked me about my quilts. Then she told me about this one and asked if I would like to see it.....well yeah! She said it wasn't anything too great then she brought it out....Oh dear I promptly told her what a "treasure" she had there.




The Sue's were made from ties that Norma had gathered and some sheets. The lady that made it Mrs. Fox, I never knew her but I remember some things that went around about her. Like her house was full of cats and there wasn't enough room in there to turn around in. All sorts of things like that. This woman has passed on but this quilt is so very nice. I think if you click on some of the photos they will be bigger and you can see what a lovely job she did in making it and in quilting it. Also note the year.



And here is one of my favorite blocks..There were several but I think I liked this one the best. Just something about it. The quilt is huge as you can tell and I think it would fit more like a comforter on a twin bed.
