Bloggers Quilt Festival - My Entry

My regular visitors have seen this quilt but I wanted to enter it in the Festival because it is my favorite quilt.

Glacier Quilt

I saw an ad in a magazine for quilts designed by Lisa Moore of Sitka, Alaska, Quilts With A Twist . I looked at her site and saw this quilt. Now I am not one to order things quickly, I procrastinate and never end up ordering but this one was just too nice not to order it. Naturally, it was out of stock so I looked at some of her links and found a quilt shop in Anchorage, Alaska: The Quilted Raven and called them. Yes, they had a pattern of the Glacier Quilt. I called right away and ordered it. The lady then asked if I wanted the kit or just the pattern. I thought wow I might not be able to get the right fabrics here so I got the kit.

It was a little different technique than I had tried before but I really wanted to make it so I made a block from muslin first. All went well and then I had one question and called the quilt shop in Anchorage to ask them and they said to call Lisa. I did and talked with her for several minutes about the quilt, then we just chatted for a bit. She offered her help and even more fabric if I needed it. When the quilt was done I posted it here. I sent Lisa a link to the post. I had mentioned that I would have to wait about 6 months to get it quilted, it was way too special for me to do myself. Lisa emailed me back and offered to quilt it for me in a couple of months time. I got the quilt back and was so impressed with it. I don't think I would ever have a quilt again that would be quilted by the designer. This is one reason why this quilt is so special to me. Another reason is that my two girls live in Alaska and when my husband and I went there we both fell in love with Alaska and would love to go back one day. Besides we have 8 grandchildren up there.

I hope that you enjoy looking at this quilt as much as my husband and I enjoy looking at it. It hangs in our living room so we can see it every day.

This Glacier Won't Melt!

I am sure you all remember when I first posted about this quilt...here. I had mentioned that the quilter couldn't even think about quilting it till about January. After I had posted I sent a link of that post to Lisa Moore, the designer of the quilt. http://www.quiltswithatwist.com/

She emailed me and offered to quilt it for me. I was so surprised. Here I had this quilt and now the designer is going to quilt it for me too. WOW! How lucky can one person get? I am so very happy with the quilt, Lisa did a beautiful job on it as I knew she would. My husband and I both really like this quilt and it is hanging in the living room. It is my all time favorite quilt. The colors are so pretty in it and with the quilting it looks like it has motion to it. Thanks Lisa ! This is a very special quilt for sure!

Just Finished The Quilt!

Just about an hour ago, I finished the quilt that I gave you a sneak peek of the other day.

About a month ago I bought a quilt magazine at the store, (I rarely buy one)there was something in there I wanted, an article on quilting machines. Anyway, I was flipping through it when I got home and and saw this ad for these quilt patterns. The web site was http://www.quiltswithatwist.com/ . The quilt pictured was neat and I was very interested so I looked up the site. Lisa Moore designs Alaska themed quilts and this one just caught my eye when I looked at her web site. It is of a glacier in Alaska. I always put off ordering something and then when I decide that I do want it I can't get it. So this time I was determined to get this pattern, she was sold out but wait as luck would have it I found one on her list of her links. A quilt store in Anchorage, http://www.quiltedravenalaska.com/ . I think I was in that store when I was in Anchorage a few years ago. So I called them and ordered it as a kit. I didn't think I would be able to get the fabrics where I live.

It's done by folding and top stitching the rectangles. The pattern said for "intermediate quilters". I don't consider myself an intermediate quilter so I was a bit concerned that I would not be able to figure it out. I did call Lisa once and she was very nice and answered my question and said that if I needed any more help just call. All in all I don't think it was as difficult as I first thought and I did try the technique out on muslin before I even cut the fabric.

I do have to wait for 6 months to get it quilted but it will be worth the wait. I have time to save up the money. I still have to piece the backing, which is like the border print only a bit lighter. The binding will be the same as the backing. I hope all of you will visit Lisa's site and see her beautiful quilt designs.
