I Give Up--------I Think

OK, here is one of the other sets of the BOM, ugh! These really were not as bad to do but I still had some trouble with them and not all my seams match and on and on. I think I am also missing a month of blocks. I think the block is supposed to be a 12 inch block, well let's hope so because these have been so wacky that I had to trim them to 12 inches. One of the blocks I am not sure if I will be able to because of the flying geese on the outside portion of the block. Needless to say, I am thinking this is destined to be a permanent UFO. One of the blocks is a log cabin made out of 5 inch charms. You cut the width and then piece those together to get the length. On one of them you have to piece an extra 1/2 inch to get the length you need for that strip. For now I am done with this BOM and moving on to another project.

BOM.....remember this?

Let's see, when was it? I think September or October maybe, I started a BOM through the LQS. Well I had so much trouble with the second block that I just could not make myself get back to it. Nothing against the quilt shop and I realize that when you cut fabric on a mass basis it isn't easy to cut evenly but these were so bad and there was no way I could straighten them up either, most were a hair shy of the required size and jagged. It took a lot of work but I finally got them done, that was month 2, yes I said 2. Now I am working on the light checkerboard, month 3. I only have 2 more months to do and I will be caught up with that. I really don't see me getting another BOM like this one where the fabric is pre cut. Not only that but some of the fabric was not to my liking, too much orange. There are so many beautiful Batiks out there. I enjoyed doing the flying geese but these, ugh! Anyone else ever have that sort of problem with pre cut fabric for a BOM?

BOM # 2

I picked up my second month of the block of the month. This is going to be a checkerboard square. It is neat how they have you sew it. You sew the two squares on opposite sides then cut up the middle. Put two of those pieces together and sew on opposite sides and you have a four patch. I had never seen it done like that but it is working out well. Some of the color combinations I didn't care for. I got a bit too much orange in my pack to suit me but I guess it will all work out in the end. It is just hard for me to "match up" colors but then again maybe I am being too fussy! I will post a photo of the squares when I get them done. In the meantime I am trying to work on another quilt for one of my other grandson's. I will be sewing like crazy here untill I get these BOM's done. I thought one day the BOM's and one day for my grandson. I am anxious to get his done as it is getting cold there and he could use it now. And I still have to quilt the star quilt for Little G. Yikes, I better get back to the machine.

New Batik Fabric

My LQS has these nice little shopping bags for sale. If you buy one then on the 5Th Saturday of the month you get 20% off every thing you buy. There are several 5Th Saturdays in the year and I think I already saved the price of the bag. I missed the first one they did but this past Saturday was another chance to use my shopping bag. I couldn't wait to get these Batiks for a quilt that I saw in the shop wanted to make. The little guy I am making it for just loves yellow so yellow, some blue and green are the colors. It is made up of half square triangles so it will be a simple quilt to make(I hope). I have a couple of other projects to finish up first but I am so anxious to get going on this. Not only that but I should be outside doing a lot of yard work now that it is very fall like out there. Too many things to do and not enough time to do it all in. Happy Quilting........

BOM******Flying Geese

With the computer in shop all week I had a chance to get my BOM's done. I really like working with the Batiks, they are so vibrant. I am not good at HST's but I thought OK we shall see, I will just take it slow and easy on them. I was amazed that I didn't have any problems. They all went together just fine. I was really pleased with the result and they were fun to do. These are supposed to be a border for the quilt. Can't wait to see what the other blocks are.

I quilted the Pink quilt today, I have to trim it up and get the binding on it then I will post a photo of it. By the way, the Pink pattern is called...Crazy Eights. I know a couple people wondered if it was Yellow Brick Road. I think they do look a lot alike.

LQS-------BOM

I finally signed up for a BOM at my LQS. I have never done one before but thought it would be fun. This is the fabric for the first month, they are going to be.....flying geese. I never made flying geese with HST before so we shall see.

You had 3 choices of fabrics, Batiks, Traditional or 30's. I love the Batiks but any one of them would have been nice. I have started to work on them in between doing another quilt. Well back to sewing.......
