Into The Wild Blue Yonder

My Mom got this Sunbonnet Sue Quilt at one of the estates that they picked up recently. She said she thought about me the second she saw it. It came in the mail the other day. I had no idea she was sending it. Little Sue has some problems, there are some spots on the quilt and some of the Sue's are very worn out. There is no backing on this quilt and I think it must have been a summer cover for the bed. The Sue's are a bit different. Some are wider than the others. I just think it is neat to have but one day I will fix the worn out Sue's. I also took a close up of one of the Sue's so you could see all the hand work. The blocks were hand stitched together as well.

Also I am off to my Mom's again. She had a heart attack on Monday and had a stint put in. She is doing well but still in the hospital. Her blood pressure is a little low and I am not sure when she will be released. I am flying out tomorrow(Thursday) to spend some time with her while she recuperates. I will have limited acess to the internet while I am there but will try and read everyone's posts when I can.
Hope to see you all in blogland soon.........

Embroidered Pillow Cases

My dear daughter wanted some white flannel pillow cases with a grey motif embroidered on them. She found the motif she wanted...http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=925

They did theirs on an already made pillow case but I figured I would have a hard time finding a white flannel pillow case so I went to Joanns and got some white flannel on sale. I looked up on the internet how to make a pillow case, lots of ideas there. Then I had to figure out the whole left/right mirror image thing. I had to do one embroidery over again because I got it on upside down but it finally all worked out. I thought the grey satin ribbon across them would look nice. They turned out just great and they are on their way to my dear daughter. Enjoy them sweetie.

Embroidered Blocks

Dear sweet Mama Net has given me so many things quilt related. These are just a few of the blocks that she gave me. Last winter when I had to go and take care of my mom, Mama Net called me and told me not to bring anything to work on because she had some things that I could do. When I got there and went to see her I couldn't believe that she had these. Although she does have a lot of stuff and I mean a lot, hidden away. I was very excited about doing these so I started right away. She also has a 12 year supply of embroidery floss,LOL. I exaggerated there but she does have a lot of floss. Mama Net did start to embroider a couple of the blocks so they will be very special.

I have worked on these blocks on and off since she gave them to me. I think I had half of them done when I got back in March. I have the blocks soaking in some textile soap to soak all the excess grime off from handling them, then I will press them and think about the fabric I will use to put them together for one of my grandchildren.
And the whole set of blocks....... These blocks have got to be about 30 years old, Guess it was time they were done and put into a quilt.

Ducks and more ducks

My dear Mom got these fabric panels way back when my Dad was sick and she had to sit with him. That would have been before 1984. She likes to be busy and couldn't just stand to sit there doing nothing. She never got a chance to work on these and can't do it now because her arthritis won't let her do needlework anymore. I am not sure if she was going to make pillows or what but she gave them to me.

When my hubby saw them he said that would be a nice quilt for him. I just sort of smiled and told him I could do that. I am not sure what I would like to do with them or when. I think it would depend on what sort of fabric I could find to go with them and if I could figure out how I wanted to put them together. I can see the background around the ducks free motion quilted along the design. Obviously I will have to get a bit better at my free motion quilting before I would do that. I will have to leave them out so I can look at them and think about it. If anyone has a brain storm let me know. About all I was thinking of doing was putting some sashing around them but there must be a nicer setting than that. They are approx. 11 inch blocks I like the brown and the green ones the best but the light colored ones would be more versatile as far as fabric goes.

For right now they are just another UFO. Edited by me.....OK it isn't a UFO, not technically. Thanks to Happy Cottage Quilter and Vesuviusmama. I stand corrected.
