Star Quilt

This is one of those quilts that you make with the half square triangles. I have wanted to make this one for a long time but as I said before I am not that good with HST's. I had a ruler that helps with them and just never tried it out. I can't say I was too happy with the ruler in the end but it was fun making this quilt. I won't use the ruler again because my edges were on the bias. Who needs that?!
One nice thing about this quilt is that I did not buy any fabric for it. It all came from my stash. I pieced the back of it too but I wanted to wait till I had the quilt together before I posted a photo of that. I have a couple of other things to get out of the way before I get this one sandwiched and quilted. I am still practicing the free motion quilting and I think I am doing a lot better at it. The hard part for me has been to get control with the whole speed thing but it seems to be working out OK now. I was hoping to free motion quilt this one but we shall see. It is for my youngest grandson, hopefully before he is four years old. LOL

Beautiful quilt. I've always wanted to do a star like that. I don't like HST's either. I have a drawerful of Thangles. I also bought a new product recently, called Ta-Da Triangles. It is a very light fusible interfacing that is not stiff (very soft) and does not need to be removed after making the triangles. Karen

Well you could have fooled me about not being good with HST - looks perfect to me! Great job, and from your stash, too - way to go!

That is a beautiful quilt! I'm not a huge fan of HST's either, especially when they are teeny tiny!
Your grandson is lucky to be recieving such a lovely creation.
Take care, and thank you for all of your kind comments over on my site! - Elizabeth

Yep, great quilt and I LOVE the colors. Did I mention that I take Christmas presents any time of the year ;-)

Your little one will love it and cherish it, I know.

Good Job!!!

I always hated hst's too, but then I started using the easy angle ruler where you cut off the points in advance and I haven't had any trouble since. I like making them now. And, only one edge is bias. I cut the strips and lay two together and then cut both halves of the triangle at the same time and just carry them to the machine. Lane

Such a pretty quilt! I love the way you used the various shades of blue to make it pop.

Very pretty, and just my favorite color also--blues. If you had any trouble with the piecing it certainly doesn't show. Can't wait to see it after it's quilted, bet it will be treasured for a long time. Have a good weekend.
