Treadle Machine

I think I mentioned that my hubby was doing some cleaning in the basement. He finally re found this old sewing machine that he bought at an auction years ago. I remember when he got it, he stood out in the rainy cold weather for hours just waiting for this to come up. It was a very long auction and the auctioneer was selling bricks one by one. At any rate, my hubby didn't pay much for this machine and it is in really good condition. He did sew with it when he first got it. It has all sorts of patent numbers on it and dates too(I think dates). One neat thing about is that the tools are there.

Here is a photo of the tools and the top of the machine. The decoration on this machine is fancier than any I have seen and doesn't show many signs of wear.

The belt on the machine is broken but it could be fixed very easily. I would love to use it but I am not sure I would want to sew a whole quilt with it but it would be good exercise.

Hello and thanks for visiting my blog. I always loved the little drawers those machine had. Pavlova is definately a NZ/Australia desert. There are different sorts, some crunchy on the outside and some like the softest marshmallow, like mine. It really just melts in your mouth. It's made from egg whites and sugar, plus a few other ingreds. Not to forget the 15mins of beating! Worth every bit of pain.

Lovely! I have the same cabinet, but unfortunately the machine was already gone when I found the cabinet.

How lucky you are !! It is beautiful and you are right it looks like it wasn't used much. Maybe the lady was like me and was just lazy. Wouldn't you love to be able to just touch it and instantly know all it has seen ? I'm one of those 'touching' people, I just can't keep my hands off of stuff. So I guess I won't be visiting your house, huh? *LOL* Enjoy, it is beautiful.

Oh, I want one so bad. They say you can buy the belts easily to fix it. Of course, I want if for the decoration, but I'd like one I can use a little bit, too. Not for anything heavy. Just for a little fun. Always thought it would be fun to piece an old fashioned quilt, using older fabrics on one...like my great grandmother did. Of course, one is probably all it would take to get me over that. Too bad I can't rent one just to scratch the itch and then give it back. Lane

Thanks for the comments on my blog. I grew up with a treadle machine in the basement, and used to play on it before I got my first Singer at age 7. That is a really nice sewing machine, and lovely cabinet. Even if you don't use it, it would am some great crafty ambiance to a room!

The photo of your treadle machine brings back memories. My mum had a similer one which my sister is still using for believe it or not to produce garments for her dressmaking business. That's how good they used to make them.

Thank you so much for your nice comment, I really appreciate it. It makes all the difference in the world to him. Back to the machine, you know you are going to have to sew something on it just to say you did. My mom is 94 and I was telling her about your machine and she reminded me that she was sewing so fast when she was little that she sew through her finger !! I just can't imagine that? So watch that speed limit *LOL*

Hi, lovely to see this machine. Looks like a Singer model 66 with the prized Lotus decals. You'll find lots about the machine and how to work it here: http://www.treadleon.net/ - It's a bunch of enthusiasts who use people powered machines. Look after her, she's a lovely old lady who is no doubt wishing to come back to life and sew.
