Machine Needles

A while back I Have A Notion had a needle exchange program, I sent in a used machine needle and she sent me new one back. I liked this needle much better than the ones that I have been using for years so I bought some. One of these needles out lasted my normal brand of needle  by about twice the time. I say twice the time because I think it was even longer. I ordered a couple of different sizes to try. Even though the initial price is a bit more than the needles that I usually buy they are cheaper in the long run because I am not changing my needle as much. I am not advertising for Kelly but I just like this needle that much  and her service is quick and cheap.I thought I would let you know about it and also ask you about yours.

What brand of needle do you use and how often do you change it? Also what size do you normally use?

I did the same thing! I sent Kelly one of my old needles and she sent me a new one to try. I really like the needles so when I was placing an order I added it to my order. I've only tried the 80/12 size. How do you think the other sizes work for piecing and quilting?

I've a package of these too, I might have had a bumm needle because the one I tried I really didn't like. I think I'm going to have to give them a second chance, that would be kind thing to do right? lol

Well, you know what I think. I was so surprised to notice a difference I could not believe it. They last much longer and I've never once had trouble threading them. I use the 80's most frequently but I do change when the fabric or thread I'm working with changes.

Kelly

I use Schmetz quilting needs 130/705 H-Q 75/11. They've always worked well. I change them after a large project - such as a quilt - or when I can hear the needle pierce the fabric (too dull then). I have a separate needle for sewing paper, because that REALLY dulls the needle. Never tried these... but would if mine suddenly misbehave!
