I finished this top about an hour ago. It is the first one in the Use It Up that I started and the 4th top I have made. I wanted to run the blocks in columns but I was a little concerned with sewing them that way. It may have been nice with the sashing but was easier to add a piece of sashing onto the side of each block and then sew them together and into rows. Let me tell you that thing is heavy. I did the blocks on muslin and this will be one warm quilt. I only put a 2 inch border on it because it is plenty big enough and didn't want to fool with more borders. I didn't measure the quilt but it is about the size of the last one I just finished and will go nicely on a twin size bed.
I will finish Mom's up after I go to the quilt shop for some border fabric for it. They are having a big sale this weekend and I don't want to miss it. Any Super Bowl sales in your local quilt shops?

Wow that is a striking quilt and looks great all finished and on the bed, keep cosy under it.
Your string quilt is beautiful - I love the way the strings make your eyes go from place to place! Great job!
I love the way you set the blocks in this quilt!
There's a big sale at Material Rewards in Dansville, NY this weekend...I keep telling myself that I don't need fabric, but it's still tempting to go check out the sale!
Great quilt ,I love the sashing on just one side .
It has got to feel great to have a finished project....I'm getting off this bot and heading down to my work area and put my fingers to the grindstone and get one done too!! Thanks for inspiring me :)

I love the look of string quilts. I have made two using phone book paper as the foundation...a bit of a pain to take out, but hubby was very handy to help. I think I'd like to make one on fabric foundation because I'd LIKE the added weight and warmth...I get colder as I get older :P
I love it! It turned out wonderful! JoAnn's is having a huge sale, but I'm not going... still on my fabric diet (helps to stay away from the stores/and out of the online ones!) I don't like the local quilt store in our town (no fun, new fabrics... lots of really country-looking stuff), so I don't go there.
Happy shopping weekend! :)
